Bob Saget’s Wife Kelly Rizzo’s Most Heartbreaking Quotes About Death

A journey of healing. Kelly Rizzo has been open about the mourning process following the death of her husband, comedian Bob Saget.
“My whole heart. Bob was my absolute everything,” the Eat Travel Rock founder said in a statement to Us Weekly in January 2022. “I am so completely shattered and in disbelief. I am so deeply touched by the outpouring of love and tribute from our friends, family, his fans and his peers.”
Saget was pronounced dead at the age of 65 after being found unresponsive in his Florida hotel room on January 9. He was laid to rest one week later in an emotional service attended by his loved ones and Full House costars.
“He put it all out there. He told everyone that he loved, and I mean, quite frankly anyone he met — even spend any time with at all — he told them he loved them endlessly, and tirelessly, and that was his entire message,” Rizzo told the Today show in January 2022, in her first interview following the Raising Dad star’s death. “If you knew Bob, and he loved you, you knew it. There was never ever a doubt in your mind.”
She continued: “I mean, even at his memorial, there were a lot of people there and every single person was pretty much like, ‘Oh, I talked to Bob last week.’ I’m like, ‘How did he have the time to talk to everybody and tell everybody that he loved them? All the time.’ It was just amazing.”
Saget’s friends and family have included his fans in the mourning process, frequently thanking them for their love and support. “In the weeks since Bob’s passing, we have been overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of love from Bob’s fans, which has been a great comfort to us and for which we are eternally grateful,” the Saget family told Us in a statement on February 9 while revealing his cause of death.
The statement continued: “As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”
Rizzo has also reflected on the ways that being open with her grief has helped her through such a difficult time. “I have been incredibly grateful and appreciative of all of you for the love and support,” the blogger said in a video on her Instagram Story in March 2022. So many people have shared their stories with me of the loss that you’ve been through, and you’ve poured out your heart, and it’s just really kind that you’ve tried to help me by sharing your stories.”

Fond Memories
“After much reflection this week, I’m trying, really trying, to not think I was robbed of time,” she wrote via Instagram in January 2022. “But instead to think: How lucky was I that I got to be the one to be married to THE MOST INCREDIBLE MAN ON EARTH. I was the one who got to go on this crazy ride with him and be in his life these last 6 years.”

‘No Regrets’
“I have no regrets,” she explained at the time. “We loved each other so damn much and told each other 500 times every day. Constantly. I know how much he loved me until the very last moment and he knew the same. I’m so grateful for that. Not everyone gets that.”

‘Valued Every Second’
In her first interview following Saget’s death, Rizzo reflected on the ways her late husband prioritized their relationship. “He loved to sleep in, but when he was away. … He would go to bed at 2 a.m. and then wake up at 4 a.m., so he could be on the 6 a.m. flight so he could come home and just so we could spend time together. We valued every single second that we had together.”
She continued: “I know that every second that we had together was just maximized to the fullest and we absolutely — there was nothing left unsaid, and nothing left on the table. So those are things that I’m just trying to hold onto.”

Trying New Things
“So remember when I said you’ll never see me do standup??” the Chicago native wrote via Instagram, alongside photos taken of her on stage at a tribute event at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles nearly one month after his death. “Well I guess I got a couple jokes in but paying tribute to my legendary and incredible husband on stage at @thecomedystore where his career began over 40 years ago was the honor of my life. I know he would’ve gotten a huge kick out of me being up on stage there backed up by Jim Carrey, @chrisrock @therealjeffreyross @johnmayer and @johnstamos – I know it made him smile big.”

Living Life to the Fullest
Rizzo marked the one-month anniversary of the loss of her husband by reminiscing about the trips they used to take together. “One month without this incredible man. Bob truly lived life to its fullest,” she wrote via Instagram in February 2022. “He had so many hardships over the years that he would always tell me ‘look, life is hard, we need to enjoy it as much as possible.’ And one of the best ways we did that together was sharing and exploring amazing food around the world.”

Bonding With Others
“Seeing how much of an impact he had on all your lives is life-changing, and [it’s] just immeasurable how much it means to all of us, and especially how much I know it would mean to Bob,” Rizzo said in a series of videos on Instagram in March 2022, where she thanked Saget’s fans for their love and support. “I don’t think he had any idea that it was to this extent how much of a difference he truly made, and so that is what I am so grateful for, so thank you all for showing me that.”

A ‘Crash Course’ In Grief
In the same post, she opened up about dealing with grief while being a public figure. “This whole grief thing is something that I’ve learned recently. A lot of people don’t really understand, don’t really like to talk about it. It’s not a very fun topic, but it’s something that at one point or another, we all go through,” Rizzo explained. “And even though I’m still very new to this world, I feel I’ve kinda had a crash course in it. Especially doing it very publicly, it adds a whole other level. It takes it to this different place that you understand things in a certain way.”

A New Universe
“2 whole months. I’ve experienced that now time means nothing and everything at the same time,” Rizzo wrote via Instagram in March 2022. “You count the weeks, and the months, they’re strange and surreal milestones. How can it be 2 months without you?? But also it feels like yesterday you were here- and it still also feels like you never left? I like to say it’s all a very weird new universe. Learning how to navigate it is quite the journey 💫.”

6 Months Later
The blogger reflected on her loss with a lengthy tribute in July 2022. “6 months without my best friend, my travel buddy, my loving husband. 6 months without your silliness, laughter, music, cuteness, caretaking, sharp wit, thoughtfulness, cuddling, and warmth,” she wrote via Instagram. “But it’s also been 6 months of looking for silver linings, learning how to brave the world without you, 6 months of care and compassion from so many who love you, 6 months of getting even closer to your magical daughters and trying to all be strong together. … We miss you so much, every day. Love you honey, the world still isn’t the same without you.”

‘Choosing to Be Happy’
“You can think you’re doing better one moment, and then all of a sudden, you have a week where it just comes crashing down on you and it surprises the hell out of you,” the Eat Travel Rock host told E! News in September 2022. “You’re like, ‘Whoa, I thought it was doing better. Where did that come from?'”
Rizzo revealed that she copes with her loss through “choosing to be happy” and being “grateful” for the time she had with her husband, adding that the process of grief “ebbs and flows” over time.
“Knowing they can get to that place of feeling better, that it’s going to pass,” she explained. “The grief was going to pass. It’s gonna be like a wave. It comes in, washes over you, and then it passes and then you feel better.”

Forever and a Day
“9 months without him. It feels like forever and also one day all at the same time,” Rizzo captioned a “silly” Instagram video in October 2022 as she reflected on her loss. “I love looking back on these videos to see how much joy and silliness and fun and love we shared. The pain and grief ebbs and flows and I still have some days that just suck and there are days that are lighter now too. But every day there is a palpable hole where he used to be.”
She continued: “But at the same time he left behind SO much residual love and laughter that he still feels so near and present. It’s all quite an enigma. As our anniversary nears later this month, I’ll share more thoughts, but for now I’ll leave you with this silly video. We had a blast making these. Miss you and love you so much, honey.”

‘His Protection’
During an October 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rizzo shared what she misses most about the Full House alum.
“I want to say everything, but just his protection,” she said. “… I felt safer with Bob in the world, ’cause he just took care of everybody so much. He was such a protector and a caretaker. He just made you feel so safe. He handled everything. He took care of everything.”
The journalist added that she felt “so safe” with Saget around, adding that “it’s almost like my shield is gone” following his death.
Rizzo also told ET that she misses the comedian’s “wicked and hilarious” humor — something she often revisits through interviews and old TV episodes.
“Nobody can make you laugh like Bob,” she gushed of her late hubby.

‘Just So Grateful’
“Cherish every single moment. I certainly didn’t think that our first Christmas together (in the same city) last year would be our last,” Rizzo wrote via Instagram in December 2022. “(It was the first year he came to Chicago to spend Christmas with my family along with my wonderful step-daughter, Lara). I’m so glad we had that special time together.”

Keeping His Daughters Close
The video creator opened up about her relationship with her late husband’s three daughters, Aubrey, Jennifer and Lara.
“The three of them are just everything to me because they were everything to him,” Rizzo said in a December 2022 interview with the Today show. “Keeping them close, really, is everything.”
