Khloe Kardashian on Her Ever-Changing Look, Facetune Allegations

Khloé Kardashian has been open about her physical transformation since she initially lost weight in 2014, but that doesn’t stop the internet trolls from questioning her looks — or the reality star from tackling plastic surgery and Photoshop accusations.
“Now on my Instagram page people comment saying ‘I liked you better when you were bigger’ and I think, ‘Thank God I don’t live my life for other people because I’d be in a constant tug of war,’” Kardashian told Cosmopolitan U.K. in 2015, noting that she headed to the gym amid her divorce from ex-husband Lamar Odom. “I have never felt ‘fat’ I just didn’t realize how unhealthy I was until I look back at pictures. In the moment I felt so beautiful and I remember walking down red carpets with my make-up done in a little sparkly dress and I thought I was so cute. I had all this confidence.”
While Kardashian has documented her fitness journey, she’s also been candid about her love for the photo editing app Facetune.
“Facetune is the best thing to bring to the table. It’s life-changing,” she said during an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix docuseries, Chelsea Does, in February 2016. “It’s the only way to live.”
Kardashian continued: “It’s not real, you are presenting to the world what you want them to believe you are. It’s amazing. I think our society nowadays is so caught up on getting validation from the social world that no one really knows, so they post these things.”
Later that year, the Revenge Body host shut down reports that she got a nose job, asking plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow his thoughts on her short-lived talk show, Kocktails With Khloé.
“When you were bigger, your nose can get wider,” the Botched doc told her.
Kardashian agreed. “It’s like when you’re pregnant, your nose spreads because there’s fat pockets in there, I guess. So when I lost weight, my nose did get smaller, and also I now know about contouring. Like when I wash my face, my nose is wider,” she said.
(Later, she revealed she had gone under the knife during the Keeping Up With the Kardashians reunion in June 2021. “I’ve had one nose job,” she explained. “Everyone gets so upset, like, ‘Why don’t I talk about it?”)
The Strong Looks Better Naked author went on to compare surgery to makeup.
“We’re all putting on a f—king mask basically every day anyway,” she said on the March 2016 episode. “When you dye your hair, you’re changing who you are, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I think people should get plastic surgery or fillers or lasers or whatever if they want it — that should be your own personal decision. I just don’t like when someone else is like, ‘Man, I only want to date a girl if they have big tits,’ and then a girl’s like, ‘I gotta get double-Ds.’ If you want them, great. If you’re doing that for your man, that’s when it bothers me.”
Fast-forward to 2020, and Kardashian was still making headlines for her looks. After social media users flooded her Instagram comments section with questions that May, an insider told Us Weekly that the reality star isn’t bothered by the hate because she’s confident in her appearance.
“Khloé doesn’t care about the backlash she’s been getting from fans saying she doesn’t look like herself in her recent photos,” the source told Us exclusively in June. “She thinks she looks great. And actually [she] does not care what people think as long as she’s happy.”
That doesn’t stop her from clapping back or clearing up rumors, however. Scroll through for Kardashian’s best social media responses over the years:

February 2016
Kardashian came under fire in 2016 after eagle-eyed social media fans pointed out that the door frame behind her in a mirror selfie looked altered. She subsequently deleted the photo and uploaded the original pic. “If only hatin burned calories how dope yall would be. Too bad it doesn’t. Here’s the OG shot. The petty movement ain’t cute. Oh and I almost forgot…. Namaste 🚪🚪🚪,” she wrote.
The Good American designer subsequently took to her blog to detail why she edited the photo to begin with.
“My right leg is an inch and a half thinner than my left because my muscles deteriorated and never recovered. The reason I’ve had so many of these surgeries – and always wear a knee brace for my workouts – is because I was in a car accident when I was 16,” she wrote at the time. “Yes, I did Photoshop it, but I was trying to make my thinner leg look bigger to match my other leg!!! All I want are big, thick thighs and I hate how skinny my legs are.”

July 2018
Kardashian admitted in the comments of a July 2018 photo that she thinks about getting a nose job “every day.”
But when asked if she underwent the procedure, she denied it. ”Great contouring!! We go overboard but my nose spread during pregnancy so I’m just waiting for it to go back lol,” Kardashian told a fan.

August 2020

“Who is that on the right?” the user wrote.
Kardashian replied, “Your new step mother. Be nice or get grounded.”

Social media users did another double take in January 2021 when Kardashian posted a gym selfie via Instagram. After fans thought the snap was of her sister Kendall Jenner, Kardashian replied, “In my dreams lol.”

February 2021
After promotional pics for her Good American shoe drop raised eyebrows in February 2021, the reality star laughed off questions about the length of her arms and legs. “It’s the angle and the type of lens. And personally I think this camera lens is so f–king cool. It gives the photo a different vibe and not the same old visual I always see. Either way, I’m happy with them,” she tweeted at the time, insisting that she “didn’t get a surgery to stretch [her] fingers” and still had “normal sized hands.”

March 2021
After a Kardashian-Jenner fan account reposted a TikTok user’s defense of the Revenge Body host’s transformation, she opened up about the impact that negative comments can have on her happiness. “I don’t want anyone to kiss my ass. I’m not asking for that,” she commented in March 2021. “But what I am asking for is for people to realize just what articles like this does to someone’s soul and confidence. I am so very grateful and appreciative of anyone who stands up to bullying or people writing story’s simply for clickbait. Defending someone, Especially when we don’t know one another makes me heart happy. That’s the person I am. I like to defend what is right.”

April 2021
After an unfiltered bikini photo of Kardashian appeared online and her team quickly scrubbed it from the internet, the reality star did an Instagram Live — filmed by her sister Kim Kardashian — to show followers what her body really looks like. “For over a decade now in photos, every single flaw and imperfection has been micro-analyzed and made fun of to the smallest detail and I am reminded of them everyday by the world,” she wrote in a statement explaining why she wanted the picture deleted. “And when I take that criticism to use as motivation to get myself in the best shape of my life and to even help others with the same struggles I am told I couldn’t have done it through hard work and I must have paid for it all.”

The reality star clarified her height after a fan expressed their confusion, including a side-by-side photo of just her and a photo of her with Kylie Jenner to show an example of Kardashian looking shorter in one of them.
“Hahahaha I love you. So on the pic next to Kylie I am leaning back on the wall and my legs are kind of staggered forward so I’m leaning so I look a little shorter,” she tweeted in May 2021. “Does that make sense? I don’t wanna look like a giant standing next to her. Although she is perfect height.”
The California native added that she was “tall and fabulous” after another fan inquired about her height measurements.

Following a June 2021 episode of KUWTK, an online commentator claimed they heard a difference in Kardashian’s voice over the years.
“I don’t understand how my voice was different back then? It makes no sense that your voice can change. Clearly I was past puberty at this point LOL,” she joked back.

The E! personality didn’t hold back when a Twitter troll compared her appearance to an “alien” in a commercial for the migraine medication Nurtec.
“Sorry you feel that way. You have every right to block/mute me. I am trying to help many out there who suffer in silence,” Kardashian replied via Twitter in June 2021. “I [sic] R completely entitled to your opinions. Just as I am mine. I don’t think you should refer to yourself as a feminist if you are attacking a woman unprovoked.”

June 2021
Kardashian revealed exactly what she’s had done to her face during part two of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians reunion special in June 2021.
“For me, everyone says, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s had her third face transplant.’ But I’ve had one nose job — Dr. Raj Kinodia — and everyone gets so upset, like, ‘Why don’t I talk about it?’” the reality star explained to Andy Cohen. “No one’s ever asked me. You’re the first person in an interview that’s ever asked me about my nose. I’ve done, sure, injections — not really Botox. I’ve responded horribly to Botox.”

Kardashian addressed her nose job again during a family special with Robin Roberts. “My whole life I would say — I’ve always wanted my nose done, forever. But it’s in the middle of your face and it’s scary to think about. But I finally got the courage, and I did it, and I love it,” she said.
After the tell-all aired, Kardashian took to Twitter to answer questions about the decision, explaining, “I got it a couple weeks before True‘s first birthday. Love it!”
When one user revealed how painful their recovery was, Kardashian added, “Mine was a breeze. That’s crazy. It honestly was so easy for me. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.”

“It did use to bother me when people were [saying] I’ve had 12 face transplants. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, I have?’ I was like, ‘That’s crazy,'” the reality star revealed during a May 2022 interview on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast while discussing rumors about her evolution. “It didn’t bother me. It offended me. I just couldn’t figure out why people thought that. I’ve had one nose job that I love. Like, I want everyone to know. … I don’t care to lie about it.”
The Hulu star said she “just want[ed] to understand why” people speculated about her look, joking that a transplant “sounds amazing later in life, but now, I’m good.”

After viewers of The Kardashians called out the family for allegedly staging scenes during season 1 of the Hulu series, the former Kocktails With Khloé host defended editing choices on other reality series. “I can tell when some audio has been put in, if they need to, like, reshoot audio, or if, like, a phone call is faked,” she explained during an episode of Hot Ones. “And not that those things didn’t happen, but sometimes they didn’t catch the audio or sometimes the mics go out.” She also noted that she’s aware of social media accounts devoted to finding errors in her family’s show. “It could be super minor, but I’m really aware of those things and I tend to notice all that stuff,” she said.

Kardashian spoke out after a seemingly altered photo of her in a bodysuit made waves online.
“I never even posted this photo. Maybe my glam did but I didn’t. Also I mean… The bent lines in the back lol please 🤣,” she tweeted, seemingly agreeing that the pic was manipulated.
The Hulu star later added: “Wait not sayin my glam did that either in just saying I didn’t post this photo on my page. Where’s the receipts that I did lol people are so weird.”

“I am really contemplating getting my boobs done — it is something I think about all the time,” the businesswoman said during season 2 of The Kardashians. “I am wearing a latex top with a bra top so they look great right now. And I wish they looked like this all the time. I just want a fuller — like, when you see me in a bikini, I don’t have cleavage.
Like, my sisters have ample cleavage.” Kardashian joked that the producers needed to “see them without” her top, adding, “That’s for another show.”

Kardashian revealed via social media that she wore faux bangs during her Sorbet cover shoot. “I am surprised with how much I liked the bangs even though they changed the shape of my face,” she wrote. Some fans, however, questioned whether it was just her bangs that were to blame for her slimmer face.
“I openly talk about my nose job and anyone who ‘looks up’ to me must know I’ve lost over 60 pounds over the years. So recently the only change is the bangs,” the TV personality clapped back to a follower who criticized her look. “I didn’t know I had to do a running list. Either way, attacking someone is sad in my opinion. Unprovoked is the saddest part. If you are offended or don’t like what you see, you simply don’t have to say anything. I hope you have a great first week of the new year. Thanks for making mine so jolly.”
